Enjoy the weekend, and we will see you all back here at school on Monday!
We want to update you on a fire alarm that occurred this morning at 7:00 AM during student arrival.
When the alarm sounded, students and staff inside the building evacuated safely. The Manassas Fire Department responded and swept the building. The alarm was determined to be a false alarm caused by a faulty smoke detector.
Students and staff returned to the building by 7:30 AM, and our normal school schedule resumed by 7:40 a.m. All students had the opportunity to pick up breakfast.
We appreciate the flexibility and cooperation of our students and staff this morning. We are especially proud of our students for following directions and demonstrating their Bobcat Best throughout the event.
Thank you for your continued support.

We will see everyone here for our Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Dear Mayfield Families,
We hope that everyone enjoys their 4-Day Labor Day Weekend. This is a reminder that all schools are closed on Friday and Monday. Students return on Tuesday, September 8.
Additionally, we will continue our safety drills upon our return on Tuesday. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority. Next week, we will conduct our school-wide safety drill to help students become familiar with our emergency procedures. This serves as your family's notification regarding the upcoming drill.
LOCKDOWN Procedure Drill - Tuesday, September 8
On Tuesday, September 8, we will practice our LOCKDOWN procedure.
A LOCKDOWN means all doors are locked, lights are out, and students and staff remain out of sight.
During this drill, we will ensure the following:
EXTERIOR DOORS SECURED – All exterior doors are locked, and visitors will not be permitted into the building during the drill.
HALLWAYS CLEARED – All hallways will be cleared of students and staff.
CLASSROOMS – Locks, lights, out of sight. Within the classroom, students and staff will remain silent and wait for instructions.
After our school security and administrative team checks all exterior doors, hallways, and classroom doors, we will conclude the LOCKDOWN drill and return to normal operating procedures.
Attached is information about the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) used in all schools across our district. We encourage families to review these procedures and discuss them with their children.

Fire Drill - Tuesday, August 18
On Tuesday, August 18, we will conduct our first fire drill of the year. Students and staff will practice safely and orderly exiting the school building and following directions to ensure everyone is accounted for and safe. Teachers will review expectations with students prior to the drill to help make the experience calm and successful.
HOLD Procedure Practice - Friday, August 21
On Friday, August 21, we will practice our HOLD procedure. A HOLD is used when we need to clear the hallways and ensure that all students and staff remain in their classrooms while normal classroom activities continue.
During this practice, we will also review the five Standard Response Protocols used throughout our school division:
HOLD – Stay in the classroom and clear the hallways.
SECURE – Get inside and lock exterior doors.
LOCKDOWN – Locks, lights, out of sight.
EVACUATE – Move to a designated safe location.
SHELTER – Take safety measures appropriate to the situation.
