Weems Elementary Staff presenting at conference

Weems Elementary School was invited to present at the Virginia Association of School Superintendents’ (VASS) Spring Conference in Roanoke this week, following recognition as the top-performing school in Region 4 for reading growth last year.

Principal Michele Hupman, joined by Instructional Facilitator Dhanel Brown and Reading Support Teacher Nikki Huynh, led a breakout session highlighting the instructional practices and systems that have contributed to the school’s success.

Their session aligned with the conference’s focus on sharing strategies and structures that lead to measurable gains in student achievement, positioning Weems as a model for impactful teaching and learning.

“Sharing how our students achieved the highest gains in reading was both an honor and a testament to their hard work and our team’s commitment,” said Hupman. “I am incredibly proud of the work behind these results and the impact it continues to have on our students.
