Jennie Dean Elementary School is the proud recipient of a $5,000 grant from the Northwest Federal Credit Union (NWFCU) Foundation. The funds will be used to support Jennie Dean families during the holiday season, said Family Liaison Leydu Cabrera.
“We are extraordinarily grateful for Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation's generous donation,” said Dr. Ed Stephenson, Principal of Jennie Dean Elementary. “The support of community partners like NWFCU is a game changer for meeting the needs of our families."
On Thursday, October 16, representatives from the NWFCU Foundation visited Jennie Dean to present the check in person. The donation was originally for $3,100, however, following a visit of the school, the Foundation was inspired to increase the donation to $5,000. The grant is part of the Foundation’s N.E.E.D.S. (Nurturing Education, Experiences & Dreams for Students) Project — an initiative created to identify and fulfill unmet needs in schools and youth-focused organizations.
“It’s clear that Jennie Dean Elementary is so much more than a school—it’s a caring community that wraps around its families. The Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation is honored to stand alongside such dedicated educators and to provide support that will make a meaningful difference for students this holiday season and beyond,” said Taralyn Kohler, VP NW Foundation Director.
The N.E.E.D.S. Project was launched by the NWFCU Foundation to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The initiative aims to break down barriers, ignite dreams, and empower schools and nonprofits to address their students’ unmet needs. The Foundation’s goal is to fulfill 20 such projects in communities near its branch locations in 2025.
Through the N.E.E.D.S. Project, schools within a seven-mile radius of an NWFCU branch can apply for funding to support projects that make a meaningful impact — from providing essential resources to creating opportunities that enhance student learning and well-being.
