Manassas City School Board

MANASSAS, VA – On July 28, the Manassas City Council voted to approve the School Board’s purchase of the administrative building at 8700 Centreville Road. This approval paves the way for the division to formally purchase the property it currently leases and utilize the site as the permanent home for its central office operations.

In addition to approving the real estate transaction, the Council also authorized the use of fund balance to support the division’s pilot alternative education program. This new initiative is designed to better serve students whose needs are not fully met in traditional educational settings and will be housed at the Centreville Road site.

“The approval of both the building purchase and the launch of the alternative education program demonstrates a shared commitment to investing in our students and ensuring every learner has access to the resources they need to succeed,” said Dr. Kevin Newman, Superintendent of Manassas City Public Schools.

The School Board initially voted to pursue the purchase in June and submitted the formal request for Council consideration earlier this month. The $10.75 million purchase will be funded through existing capital reserves.

“I’m proud of how the School Board and City Council have worked collaboratively to prioritize student achievement,” said Suzanne Seaberg, Chair of the School Board. “This action reflects the strength of our governance partnership and our joint dedication to creating a stronger future for all Manassas students.”

The alternative education program is expected to launch during the 2025–2026 school year and will serve students in grades 5–12.
