Weems VSBA Art Winner

Two Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) students were recognized at the 2025 Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Northeastern Regional Art Contest held on May 14, bringing home first and second place honors at the elementary and middle school levels.

Kingston Rosner, a 4th grader at Weems Elementary School, earned 1st Place in the elementary category. This marks the second consecutive year a Weems student has claimed the top spot in this regional art competition—a testament to the continued creative excellence fostered in the art program under the leadership of art teacher Amy Saylor.

Michelle Ochoa, a 7th-grade student at Metz Middle School, received 2nd Place in the middle school category. Her artwork stood out among submissions from across the region and reflects the vibrant talent being cultivated at Metz under the guidance of art teacher Wesley Kane.

Each year, the VSBA hosts this regional contest to celebrate student creativity and highlight the role of the arts in public education. First-place artwork is framed and displayed at VSBA headquarters in Charlottesville, and all first-place recipients will now advance to the new statewide art contest, where top honors include a $1,000 award and recognition at the VSBA Annual Convention in November.

MCPS is proud of Kingston and Michelle for representing our schools and community with excellence.
