The City of Manassas School Division celebrated a momentous milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Jennie Dean Elementary School. The event featured remarks from School Board Chair Suzanne Seaberg, Mayor Michelle Davis-Younger, Superintendent Dr. Kevin Newman, Senator Danica Roem, Delegate Michelle Lopes Maldonado, and Dr. Thurma Goldman, President of the Jennie Dean Education Foundation. Principal Brian Coleman opened the ceremony with a warm welcome, followed by the PreK students leading the Pledge of Allegiance and a stirring performance by the school choir. Attendees included city officials, school board members, city council representatives, MCPS leadership, and community members. The ceremonial groundbreaking marked the beginning of an exciting journey, with construction expected to commence in 2025. Once completed, the new school will serve students from PreK through 4th grade, embodying a vision years in the making to provide innovative learning spaces for the community.
