Happy Veterans Day Image

Each year, all Manassas City Public Schools are privileged to welcome the Veterans from American Legion Post 10 (Manassas) as they ride through school parking lots on their motorcycles. They are met with cheers, gratitude, and handcrafted cards and posters from students of all ages. It’s a joyful moment that brings the school community together to thank those who have served.

This year, the event took place on Friday, November 8, and served as a tribute in memory of a beloved MCPS teacher, Mrs. Carey Burke Smith, who passed away over the summer. Mrs. Smith worked for MCPS for over 30 years and brought this cherished tradition to the division over a decade ago. Thanks to her connection with the American Legion, this heartwarming event has continued, building bonds between students and the Veterans who serve as heroes and role models.

The celebration continued Friday afternoon during a Veterans Day Assembly at Round Elementary School, where the school honored staff and family members of students who have served in the military, including those from American Legion Post 10.

Thank you to all Veterans for your service and to MCPS students and staff for honoring them so beautifully. On this Veterans Day we salute you and cherish the legacy of gratitude and remembrance Mrs. Smith began.
