Dr. Lisa Coons, Virginia Superintendent of Public Instruction, and Em Cooper, Deputy Superintendent for the Division of Teaching and Learning, from the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) visited Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) on Wednesday, September 18.
Their first stop was Osbourn High School, where they witnessed the Career & Technical Education (CTE) Career & Conversations event in full swing. Dr. Coons interacted with students and representatives from a wide range of businesses and organizations, including trades, military, public services, community colleges, and both small and large companies. This event highlighted the strong community support that helps guide Osbourn students as they explore post-graduation pathways.
Following their time at Osbourn, Dr. Coons and Ms. Cooper visited Haydon Elementary School, where they had the opportunity to observe a Collaborative Learning Team (CLT) meeting with third-grade teachers. They watched as the team engaged in detailed discussions regarding ways to develop engaging lessons that improve student achievement. Dr. Coons also actively participated in the conversation, offering insight from her years of instructional experience. Before her departure, Dr. Coons praised the instructional team for fostering a positive learning environment and supporting student success.
Thanks to Dr. Coons and Ms. Cooper for visiting MCPS to see that great things are happening in our City!
