May 15, 2024 - The School Board of the City of Manassas has appointed Betty Jo Wynham as the Director of School Leadership of Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS). The approval was made during the school board’s meeting on May 14. Wynham will replace Dr. Eric Brent, who has served as the interim Director of School Leadership this school year. She will begin her new assignment on July 1.

Wynham has dedicated her career to serving students and promoting excellence in education. She brings 17 years of experience in education, having worked in Albemarle County Public Schools, Culpeper County Public Schools, and most recently, Madison County Public Schools.

She started as a special education teacher and later became an assistant principal at Eastern View High School and Albemarle High School. She currently holds dual roles as a high school principal and Director of Career and Technical Education.

In her current role, Wynham has shown a solid commitment to student-centered decision-making, maximizing staff talents, and creating innovative pathways for specialized instruction for students with disabilities, English language learners, and career and technical education programs. Her efforts have significantly improved student achievement in science and among students with disabilities.

“Ms. Wynham’s outstanding leadership and dedication to excellence will contribute to driving student achievement in MCPS to new heights,” said Superintendent Dr. Kevin Newman.

Wynham graduated from Randolph-Macon College with a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Psychology. She furthered her education by obtaining a master’s degree in Special Education from Liberty University and a post-master’s certificate in Educational Leadership from George Washington University. Wynham holds endorsements in Administration and Supervision and Special Education. She is currently pursuing her doctorate from Virginia Tech.
