About Dr. Newman
Dr. Kevin Newman began his tenure as Manassas City Schools’ superintendent on July 2, 2018, having been appointed by a unanimous vote of the school board after a national search.
Dr. Newman has served in various educational roles in the state of Virginia including time as a high school health and physical education teacher and special education teacher. In 2005, he became an assistant principal at the middle school level in Rockingham County, a position he held for a year before joining Colonial Beach Public Schools as principal of its elementary school. During his tenure, the school earned recognition as a 2011 Governor’s School of Excellence. In 2014, Newman joined King George Public Schools as principal of the middle school, leading them to full accreditation status.
Following his stint in King George, Dr. Newman returned to Colonial Beach as its new superintendent, a position he held for four years. In addition to the daily demands of leading the school division, he worked to renew pride in the community after the division’s lone elementary school was destroyed by arson. He also implemented effective instructional strategies to move the division from school improvement status to being fully accredited for three consecutive years.
Dr. Newman is motivated to see students succeed. He is often driven and inspired by the words of his favorite poem:
See It Through - by Edgar Albert Guest
When you’re up against a trouble,
Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
Plant your feet and take a brace.
When it’s vain to try to dodge it,
Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer,
See it through!
Black may be the clouds about you
And your future may seem grim,
But don’t let your nerve desert you;
Keep yourself in fighting trim.
If the worst is bound to happen,
Spite of all that you can do,
Running from it will not save you,
See it through!
Even hope may seem but futile,
When with troubles you’re beset,
But remember you are facing
Just what other men have met.
You may fail, but fall still fighting;
Don’t give up, whate’er you do;
Eyes front, head high to the finish.
See it through!
