Pre-K Program Information
1. How many students are in each class?
VPI classes have a maximum of 18 students.
Each class has a full-time certified teacher and instructional assistant.
2. What schedule do students follow?
The VPI program follows the MCPS school year calendar.
Students receive direct classroom instruction 3.5 hours per day, five days a week.
School hours are determined by the specific elementary site. School Hours.
3. What is the curriculum in the VPI program?
The Creative Curriculum® for Preschool is one of the most widely used pre-K curricula in the nation. It’s comprehensive and research-based and features exploration and discovery as a way of learning.
Foundation volumes help teachers create high-quality learning environments and support deep understanding of early childhood best practices, theories, and research. Robust Daily Resources provide the instructional tools and materials to engage children in project-based investigations and make every moment of the day meaningful, intentional, and engaging.
The VPI program also covers Virginia's Early Learning and Development Standards (ELDS), Birth-Five Learning Guidelines, focus on five "Areas of Development": Approaches to Play and Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language, and Literacy Development, Health and Physical Development and Cognitive Development (Science, Social Sciences: People, Community and Culture, Mathematics and Fine Arts).
With the goal of ensuring all Virginia children have an equitable opportunity to enter kindergarten ready to thrive, these new standards have been developed to support birth to five programs to:
Understand child development and provide developmentally-appropriate practice,
Use quality instructional tools and engage in aligned professional development,
Individualize care and instruction to meet the needs of all learners, and
Promote holistic and intentional learning and development at each age and stage.
4. Are meals provided in school?
Great news for you and your students! All enrolled students of Manassas City Public Schools are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2024-2025 school year. No further action is required of you. Your child(ren) will be able to participate in these meal programs without having to pay a fee or submit a meal application.
5. Is transportation provided for VPI students?
Transportation is provided for VPI students who live in the attendance zone of the school or use bus stops established for K-12 students attending the same school.
