Osbourn High School Governor's STEM Academy

The STEM Academy is a Governor’s School. There are only 21 in the state of VA.   

The STEM Academy at Osbourn High School provides students the opportunity to explore STEM careers and build knowledge that leads to post-secondary education and/or career opportunities. 

The STEM Academy courses are designed to include rigorous instruction and collaborative projects.

Program Focus:

  • Provide students the opportunities to explore STEM careers

  • Promote student achievement and build knowledge that leads to post-secondary education and/or career opportunities.

  • Prepare students for global competitiveness in high-skill, high-wage, and high-demand STEM careers.


Students will be offered work based learning experiences and enrichment activities throughout the program. They will be invited to attend a wide range of CTE related programs, field trips, guest speakers, community opportunities, and after school programs.

Students choose from one of three pathway options:

  1. Automotive Technology

  2. Information Technology

  3. Engineering Technology

These pathways offer:

  • Dual Enrollment options

  • Work Based Learning opportunities

  • Higher rigor

  • Enrichment opportunities 

In order to apply a student should :

  1. Be interested in Auto Tech, STEM, and/or Computer Science

  2. Have a grade point average of 3.0 or above (A’s and B’s) 

  3. A Teacher recommendation

  4. A School Counselor recommendation

  5. Regular school attendance

  6. Be a Rising 9th or 10th grader

Timeline for applying:

  • Application Posted: December 16

  • Applications Open from December 16 through January 31

  • Deadline for Applications: January 31

  • Deadline for Teacher Recommendations: February 10

  • Notification of Acceptance: February 17
