Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) - La Ley de Ausencia Familiar y Médica

The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) provides eligible employees with up to 12 work weeks, or 60 work days, of unpaid, job-protected leave a year and requires group health benefits to be maintained during the leave as if employees continue to work instead of taking leave. Eligible employees who have worked 1,250 hours during the 12 months prior to the start of leave may qualify for FMLA. When the need for leave is foreseeable (i.e. pregnancy, surgery, etc.), employees are required to provide 30 days notice.
