Transportation

Bus Driver Appreciation Image

We carry precious cargo!

The school bus is an extension of the classroom, which makes the Transportation Department an important link in the education process for the students of Manassas City Public Schools. Many students don't ride the bus back and forth to school, but they more than likely will during field trips and extracurricular activities.  Manassas City school buses transport students, coaches, teachers and chaperones on field trips and to sports activities. Buses are also provided for students participating in variety of after-school activities at Baldwin and Mayfield intermediate schools, Metz Middle School and Osbourn High School.

Who is Eligible for Transportation?
The Code of Virginia, Section 22.1-176, permits school boards to provide transportation for eligible pupils, but does not require them to do so. Public school bus service in Manassas City is provided for all eligible students living in excess of 1 mile from their assigned school. Special provisions are arranged for students with disabilities.

The Transportation Department is responsible for transporting more than 7,000 students to and from our schools each day. These students are transported by a remarkable staff of drivers and attendants.

Many students are shuttled between schools during the instructional day for a variety of special programs. The Special Education fleet transports students with special needs to a variety of out-of-city locations for several different programs.

Safety is, and will always be, our first priority in transporting students. Safety is an effort that involves students, parents, teachers, administrators, the general traveling public and, of course, the bus drivers themselves. It is our ongoing goal to pursue every possible avenue for providing the safety of students. This ranges from initial training of drivers, continuous general ancillary training, and skill specific reevaluation and retraining. Join us in our effort to provide for the safety and welfare of student riders and walkers. Please watch your speed and proceed with caution around school bus stops and school zones.

In addition to safety, the Transportation Department is committed to doing our part in emphasizing that each student be treated with dignity and respect. We will in turn expect the same standard of conduct for our employees and staff.

For additional information regarding transportation, please contact the Transportation Department at 571-377-6091.
