New Leadership

Manassas City Public Schools has announced interim leadership changes at Jennie Dean Elementary School, effective July 29.

Brian Coleman, current principal at Jennie Dean, will move into a new role as administrator for the division’s site-based alternative education program, located at 8700 Centreville Road. The Manassas City Council approved funding for the program on July 28, allowing the division to move forward with a dedicated alternative learning site.

Coleman, known for his commitment to students who face challenges in traditional classroom settings, will lead the new initiative as part of the division’s focus on inclusive learning and support services.

Dr. Ed Stephenson, who currently serves as director of instruction, will step in as interim principal at Jennie Dean. Stephenson brings broad leadership experience, including time as a principal, assistant principal, teacher, and supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts.

Jennifer Mullen, formerly the elementary professional growth specialist, will serve as interim assistant principal. Mullen has experience coaching new teachers and has previously held roles as interim assistant principal, STEM coach, and classroom teacher.

The appointments are part of the division’s efforts to maintain a high-quality workforce and ensure strong leadership in schools. The search for a permanent administrative team at Jennie Dean will begin soon.

In a related change, Betty-Jo Wynham, currently director of school leadership, will take on the role of interim director of instruction, allowing Stephenson to focus fully on leading Jennie Dean during this transition.

“We are confident in the leadership and expertise of Brian Coleman, Ed Stephenson, Jennifer Mullen, and Betty-Jo Wynham,” said Craig Gfeller, deputy superintendent. “Their experience and commitment to students will ensure stability and continued excellence at Jennie Dean.”

Manassas City Public Schools remains focused on strengthening schools and appreciates the community’s support during this period of transition.
