Osbourn CTE Students Heading to National Competition After Shining at States
May 8, 2019...Osbourn High School (OHS) participated in the 55th SkillsUSA Virginia State Championships in Virginia Beach, April 12-13, 2019. The Career and Technical Education (CTE) students secured championship titles in Esthetics and Crime Scene Investigation for the second consecutive year. In the Esthetics competition, Karla Juarez-Orozco received the gold medal. Angelica Farias-Barriga, Leonela Morales-Morales, and Axell Portillo won gold medals in the Crime Scene Investigation team competition. Criminal Justice student Cristian Hernandez earned the gold medal and will join the winner's group headed to the national SkillsUSA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky June 24-28, 2019.
Additionally, Carlos Moreno and Victoria Peters both won gold medals and Christine Tan and Yarisme Trejo each received a bronze medal in the EMT team competition. Kaylee Reyna won a gold medal and Jacqueline Orellana-Chevez received the silver in the Fantasy Hair competition, while Dania Lopez is the recipient of a bronze medal in barbering. In Cosmetology, Dania Lopez earned a silver medal at the competition.
OHS did not stop there. Five students received medals during technical exams, including Emma Elson who earned a gold medal in Criminal Justice; while Chad Matthews received silver, and Jamie Batcheler and Abbey Harrelson both won bronze in the category.
