Osbourn High School’s Student Leadership Shines!

In January, the Osbourn High School (OHS) student leadership team partnered with Baldwin Elementary School to host a Winter Craft Fest.

The leadership team read books and guided the Baldwin students in making winter crafts. The crafts consisted of making wooden snowmen spoons, sock snowmen, holiday necklaces, and decorating snowflakes. There was also a Valentine's Day craft in which the students created love bug sticks to give to someone special in their life.

“The sock snowmen were a big hit and it was my favorite craft. We poured rice into a large sock and tied it off with a smaller sock to form the hat. Then, the students got to decorate the snowmen by making its face and gluing on buttons. It was very enjoyable and it allowed the students to be creative while working with other people. It was a great bonding experience for all of us,” said Samantha Donaire, a junior at Osbourn.

Thirty-two students participated in the Craft Fest. Goodie bags with snacks and drinks were provided for each student. At the end of the experience, the OHS leadership team gave the students books and pencils as an additional memory of the event.

Osbourn senior, Ellie Morad, enjoyed seeing how much the elementary students enjoyed having the leadership team at the school.  “They were so excited to be there and didn’t even want to leave,” Morad said. “Their faces were all smiles and filled with joy. It was one of the best experiences of my life and I hope to do it again!”

According to Baldwin Elementary School’s principal, Laura Goldzung, the positive feelings about the event were mutual.  “It was a magical day of socializing, language development, literacy, and….glitter. Lots of glitter, Goldzung said.

Osbourn’s student leaders are a part of a national high school leadership program focused on “Impact Through Action”, sponsored by the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy.  Osbourn is sponsored by Chick-fil-A owner operator, Mr. George Snyder.
