2017 Earth Day Poster Contest Winners
A Mayfield Intermediate School student is the winner of the city's 2017 Earth Day Poster Contest. Runners up included another Mayfield student and an elementary student (see below). Over 400 children participated in the contest, which is aimed at improving their understanding of environmental issues and encouraging them to help keep Manassas beautiful. All Manassas City Public School students in years 1 – 6 were eligible to participate and win prizes including gift cards, gardening kits, and the opportunity for their artwork to be displayed in classrooms and on the City of Manassas and Manassas City Public Schools websites.
"Art offers students a unique way to think about the environment," said Monica Boehringer, Refuse and Recycling Coordinator for the City of Manassas. "Empowering students to use their creativity improves their engagement and understanding about environmental issues in the City of Manassas. The Earth Day Poster contest is also successful in helping students spread the word to their friends, family and our community."
The winners have been invited for recognition at the April 24th City Council meeting.
