School Board Names Osbourn High School's New Principal

Osbourn High School Principal Mike Pflugrath May 14, 2019…The School Board of the City of Manassas has named Michael Pflugrath (FLEW-grath) as the new principal of Osbourn High School. The School Board made the appointment during the May 14 regular business meeting.  He will begin his new assignment on July 1. Pflugrath has worked in public school education for over 20 years. In 2013, he became assistant principal at South County High School in Fairfax County where he has worked since 2005. He was recognized as the 2017 Virginia Assistant Principal of the Year and a semifinalist for the National Assistant Principal of the year.

Pflugrath, a former member of the United States Army and social studies teacher, is commended for his ability to form positive connections with students and staff. He created South County’s Military Connected Youth Program and helped staff members seeking more leadership opportunities through his Aspiring Administrator Cohort. Additionally, he leads the school’s Literacy Team by providing targeted professional development for teachers to increase student engagement.

He also developed the Student Learning Center at South County, which offers tutor sessions during the school day for all students. Under his leadership, STEM courses have expanded and doubled in enrollment. During his time at South County, Pflugrath also enjoyed serving as director of student activities. His students describe him as a gifted leader with a positive attitude that makes a difference.

Pflugrath earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science from James Madison University and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from George Mason University. He also holds a Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in Administration and Supervision PreK-12, History and Social Sciences. Osbourn High School is the sole high school in the City of Manassas and serves approximately 2,145 students in grades 9-12.
