All Manassas City Public Schools Accredited
September 27, 2018…All nine Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) are accredited based on the 2018-19 results released by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) today. Beginning this school year, the State Board of Education implemented the revised Standards of Accreditation, and schools were evaluated on school quality indicators grouped into three categories: academic achievement, achievement gaps, and student engagement and outcomes. The revision to the state formula gives credit for students who made significant growth in reading, math, and English language acquisition.
“I am very proud of the hard work put in by our students and staff,” said Dr. Kevin Newman, superintendent of schools. “My message to our school community encourages everyone to stay committed to the process and seeing it through. Although accreditation is a great accomplishment, we have to continue focusing on improving achievement for all students and we will do this through examining the data that shows us the areas that are thriving and the areas that need additional support.”
Accreditation ratings for 2018-19 are available on the VDOE website.
