Osbourn Auto Tech Program Fully Accredited
March 20, 2015...The Osbourn High School (OHS) Auto Tech program is now accredited through the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF). An accredited program ensures students have access to the highest standards in automotive service training and the chance to earn college credits while still in high school.
The program at OHS is led by instructor Keith Riley, who was applauded by the NATEF evaluation board for many home runs within his program, including: safety, attitude, continuing education and exposing students to the most relevant automotive systems. “This is a great achievement for our program and students, who can now start working with a dual enrollment certified teacher on building college transcripts while attending his classes,” said Lisa Lewis, coordinator of career and workforce development at Manassas City Public Schools. “We just want to thank Mr. Riley for all his hard work and affording this opportunity for his students."
The OHS Auto Tec h program was recommended for accreditation in November and underwent a thorough process, including a self-evaluation performed by program instructors, administrators and advisory committee members, who surveyed former and current students of the program. An on-site visit by a trained NATEF evaluation team leader was also conducted before the program was officially approved. “Good things continue to happen at OHS,” said Principal Cathy Benner. “OHS appreciates the help of the many community and staff members who helped Mr. Riley prepare for his program to qualify for this prestigious certification.”
NATEF’s mission is to improve the quality of automotive technician training programs nationwide at secondary and post-secondary, public and proprietary schools, according to its website. Programs are required to go through a reaccreditation process every five years in an effort to provide students ongoing access to quality schools and programs, and the opportunity to secure a solid career post-graduation. Currently, Osbourn is one of 71 NATEF accredited secondary auto programs in the state of Virginia.
