CTE Students Place in Top Three at State Skills Competition
Congratulations to Career & Technical Education (CTE) students who competed in the SkillsUSA Virginia’s 51st Annual 2015 State Leadership Conference & Skills Championships on April 17-18, 2015 in Roanoke at the Berglund Center.
Osbourn High School had a total of seven students make it to the final round. Senior Savannah Cook, who is part of the cosmetology CTE program at OHS, went on to earn second place in the Action Skills competition for her five-minute demonstration on ‘Speed Hair Cutting’. Joseph Belasco, a junior at OHS, earned a bronze award for his demonstration in Electronic Technology.
“All our competitors did an excellent job and remained professional at all times. The students have come back motivated to compete again next year,” stated Cosmetology/Nail Technology Instructor Arnaz Dotivala.
Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) CTE encompasses a wide range of opportunities for students to explore and pursue their career objectives prior to graduating from high school. Programs evolve each year in response to the changing workplace and workforce needs in an effort to provide all students with the skills necessary to compete in a global society and excel in the careers of tomorrow.
“Our teachers, students, and administrators have worked very hard for these competitions…it was a great experience for all,” Dotivala added.
SkillsUSA is one of the largest student-run organizations where students have an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership, participate in community service projects, test their skills amongst competitors in their district, state, national, and international peers and/or simply apply the SkillsUSA philosophy in their everyday life and work.
