Round Elementary First Lego League Team Competes at State Level
November 28, 2017...Round Elementary School’s First Lego League (FLL) team will be competing in the the Va-DC championship tournament Saturday, December 2. The team secured a spot in the state-wide tournament held at James Madison University after winning first place in the Research Presentation category at the regional event at Osbourn Park in early November. Additionally, the team scored in the top three for all other categories.
The teams have used advanced LEGO EV3 and NXT kits to build robots that are programmed to perform specific, precise tasks. Over the course of about nine weeks, the participating teams designed, researched, built, programmed, tested, refined, and retested a fully autonomous robot capable of completing a number of very challenging missions, Over the weekend they will be judged on their core values, research project, and robot design. They will also demonstrate how well their robot performs on the competition tables.
All MCPS elementary FLL teams competed in the Manassas tournament. Of the 30 teams competing, seven were selected to advance to the state level. Round will be among 108 teams competing at the two-day state event. The robotics students and their coaches will be recognized at the December 12th meeting.
