Morris Named Principal of Metz Middle School

February 23, 2022 -- The School Board of the City of Manassas Morris named Gary M. Morris as the new principal of Metz Middle School. He will officially join the Metz family on July 1.

Morris has more than 25 years of experience in public education, including more than 15 in administration.  He currently serves as the principal of South County High School, a position he has held since 2018.

“We are excited to have Mr. Morris become a part of the MCPS family,” said Dr. Kevin Newman, superintendent of schools.  “He has a reputation as a strong leader who places emphasis on creating a supportive family environment focused on collaborative efforts for student success.”

Morris began his career in education in 1995 as a technology education instructor. He transitioned to administration in 2005, when he was named the lead assistant principal of the then-new South County Secondary School, which served grades 7-12.

Morris said he made the shift to administration to impact more students than those in his classroom. Since becoming a building administrator, he has served as both lead assistant principal and principal of Mountain View Alternative High School and lead principal of Fairfax County Adult High School Completion.

As an administrator, Morris has been commended for his ability to build united teams that strive for a culture of academic excellence. He is also a strong proponent of professional development and lifelong learning.

Morris earned a bachelor’s degree in Electronics Technology and a Master of Arts in Teaching Technology Education from Norfolk State University. Additionally, he has an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Administration and Supervision from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

“I would like to thank the leadership team and School Board for selecting and welcoming me into the Manassas City Public Schools Family,” Morris said. “Throughout this process, I have felt a strong sense of support and teamwork, and I am looking forward to working with the students, staff, families, and community stakeholders to continue to grow Metz Middle School into a beacon of success.”

Metz Middle School is the sole middle school in the City of Manassas and serves approximately 1,108 students in seventh and eighth grades.
