Iqbal to Fill Vacant Seat on School Board

January 11, 2022 - The School Board of the City of Manassas has appointed Abraham Alexander Iqbal to serve as its newest member. Iqbal joined the Board on January 3 and was appointed to fill the vacant seat previously held by Tim Demeria, who resigned December 31 to serve as the city's Commissioner of the Revenue.

"It is an honor to be able to serve the community and schools that raised me," said Iqbal. "I am excited to offer my perspective as a recent college graduate and former MCPS student from elementary to high school."

An alumnus of Osbourn High School, Iqbal says he hopes to "pay it forward" by supporting MCPS students who have ambitions for college and beyond. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from OHS and credits the support he received during his years in the city schools as the catalyst that prepared him to attend the Governor's School @ Innovation Park, and graduate from Virginia Tech University, where he earned a bachelor's in computer science. His journey brought him back to his hometown, where he now works as a Photolithography Process Engineer for Micron Technology.

"We are thrilled that Mr. Iqbal is joining us," said Suzanne Seaberg, school board chair. "His fresh perspective and personal experience with our schools will benefit the work of the board."

Iqbal will serve on the school board through December 31, 2022, the remainder of Demeria's term.
