Lockheed Martin Grant Aids MCPS Distance Learning
The Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) Education Foundation has received a $10,000 grant from Lockheed Martin to support the division’s distance learning efforts.
In March, Governor Ralph Northam closed Virginia schools for the remainder of the school year due to the coronavirus's impact. MCPS, like all other divisions across the state, was forced to adapt quickly and teachers, administrators, and students responded to the new challenges of virtual learning.
“From device and meal distribution to online instruction, we are proud of the way the MCPS family adjusted to these unprecedented times,” said Kevin Newman, superintendent of schools. “We are also grateful for the support we have received from community partners like Lockheed Martin.”
Lockheed Martin provides support for Manassas City Public Schools in various ways, including funding for grants, a STEM scholarship, and robotics programs.
“A member of the Lockheed Martin staff has sat on the Board of Directors for the MCPS Education Foundation for the past several years to ensure that we can leverage their support to fund innovation across the school division,” said Katy Keegan, executive director of the MCPS Education Foundation. "We appreciate the ongoing partnership with Lockheed Martin that continues to evolve to meet our community's needs."
The MCPS Education Foundation is comprised of business and community leaders who advocate for educational excellence. Through their efforts, they form the bridge between the schools and the business community and create enriching educational opportunities for all Manassas City students.
