February 25, 2018… The School Board of the City of Manassas is preparing to begin the interview process for its next superintendent of schools. Forty-eight candidates submitted complete applications for the position. Applications closed Feb. 16.
“We are encouraged and honored by the large number of quality candidates who have applied to be the Superintendent of Manassas City Public Schools,” said Sanford S. Williams, school board chairman. “We think this is a testimony to the great work of our students, staff and our current Superintendent, Dr. Catherine Magouyrk.”
The school board contracted with the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to assist with conducting a national search. Candidates include 14 current and former superintendents, 11 assistant/deputy superintendents, 10 central office administrators, nine principals or building level administrators and four additional applicants. Twenty-six of the candidates hail from Virginia, while 22 people from 14 other states applied for the position.
“We thank the VSBA for their assistance with our current search,” Williams said. “We look forward to hiring a candidate committed to excellence and leading MCPS into 2019 and beyond.”
