Osbourn Robotics Earns Award for Autonomous Robot Operation
March 12, 2019...The Osbourn High School Robotics team is the proud recipient of a new award sponsored by Ford Motor Company that aims to celebrate teams for using software to control the robot. The 'Autonomous Award' was presented to the OHS Lambda Corps 1895 Robotics team at the CHS District competition event in Haymarket, VA, March 2-3, 2019. The event was sponsored by Booz Allen Hamilton.
The award celebrates the team for demonstrating consistent, reliable, high-performance robot operation autonomously, rather than manually controlling the robot. According to the event's website, evaluation is based on the robot’s ability to sense its surroundings, position itself or onboard mechanisms appropriately, and execute tasks. Additionally, OHS tied for the top bonus score during the challenge and earned points towards eligibility for the district championship.
The OHS team is part of the First Chesapeake District and spent six weeks building and coding a robot to meet the event's game challenge: Destination Deep Space. The team will next compete at Oxen Hill, MD on March 23 and 24, starting at 9 a.m. each day.
The group, alongside their mentors, will be recognized at the March 12th School Board meeting during Superintendent Spotlights. Lambda Corps 1895 is sponsored in part by the Manassas City Public Schools Education Foundation and Lockheed Martin. Please visit the team's webpage for a complete list of sponsors. Congratulations!
