Manassas Reads Event Gives Away Nearly 7,000 Books
July 19, 2018...Nearly 7,000 books were given away at the 2018 Manassas Reads event held on April 28th. Manassas Reads is a community-wide reading festival hosted by The Prince William County Public Library System, City of Manassas and Manassas City Public Schools every spring at the Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas.
The community partners joined together to host the first Manassas Reads event in October 2014. The annual event continues to offer many events and giveaways, including LOTS of free books for all ages, prizes, special community guest readers, Manassas Therapy Dogs, the chance to meet published and local authors, children's crafts and activities, student presentations, live music and so much more!
The goal each year is to collect gently-used books for ages pre-K through young adult to give away to event attendees in an effort to continue to promote reading in the community. The hope is that all who attend can leave with 10 free books. Donations can be dropped off at Central Office (8700 Centreville Road, Ste. 400 Manassas, VA 20110) and participating MCPS schools throughout the year.
In 2017, over 5,000 books were given away.
