2018 Virginia School Board Association Convention Highlights
November 28, 2018…The Virginia School Board Association’s (VSBA) Annual Convention took place November 14—18, 2018 in Williamsburg. Osbourn High School’s CenterStage choir performed at the event’s Opening General Session, during which the VSBA honored Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) School Board Member Scott Albrecht for his successful tenure as the association’s 2017-2018 president. Albrecht will continue serving on the VSBA Board of Directors as immediate past president.
All City of Manassas School Board members were present at the convention to include Chairman Sanford S. Williams, Vice Chairwoman Kristen Kiefer, Scott Albrecht, Tim Demeria, Peter O’Hanlon, Suzanne Seaberg and Robyn Williams. Superintendent Dr. Kevin Newman was also present.
Additionally, the VSBA recognized Manassas City Public Schools for two awards at the convention. The division received first place in the Green Schools Challenge for implementing “specific environmental policies and practical actions that reduce the carbon emissions generated by both the local school division and the broader community,” according to a VSBA press release. VACORP also presented MCPS with the top award for Excellence in Risk Management in the Property/Casualty category among school systems with comparable student population.
