Metz Students Attend Jazz Event at Department of Education
June 6, 2019...Metz jazz band students were invited to the U.S. Department of Education to learn about jazz and how it represents the values of leadership and democracy.
The performance took place under the direction of Education Director for the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Dr. J.B. Dyas. The lesson also delivered an extraordinary performance by Sean Jones, an internationally acclaimed Jazz recording artist, as well as musicians from the Baltimore School for the Arts.
Dr. Dyas provided insight into important leadership and democratic values that jazz represents including, teamwork, unity with ethnic diversity, correlation of hard work and goal accomplishment, the role of the individual as a leader among leaders, the need for good communication, and the vital importance of really listening to one another, according to Band Director Bill Stevens.
The Metz jazz band members were extremely professional and received a lifetime invitation back to the event! Way to go Metz!
