Metz Student Pens Winning Essay in VFW Contest
December 3, 2017...A Metz Middle School student was honored at the annual Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Edcuational Awards ceremony for their submission in the local organization's 2017-2018 'Patriot Pen' essay contest. Fionette King, who is in the eighth grade, wrote an essay on the topic "America's Gift to My Generation." She was among five students (grades 6-8) who were recognized by the VFW Post 7589 and its Auxiliary on December 3, 2017. Over $3,000 in scholarships were awarded to this year's winners. The contest is open to public schools, as well as students who attend private school or are homeschooled. Fionette (right) is pictured below with Metz English department chair Mrs. Smith-Jones.
