MCPS Earns Risk Management Award

November 16, 2023 - Manassas City Public Schools was one of 11Board at VSBA Conference Virginia school divisions recognized in the Excellence in Risk Management Awards presented by the Virginia Association of Counties (VAcorp) at the Virginia School Boards Association’s (VSBA) Annual Convention. VAcorp provides coverage and risk management services to school divisions, public entities, and related organizations across the Commonwealth.

“The School Board was very pleased to accept the Risk Management Award on behalf of our Operations Team that works diligently to limit our liabilities,” School Board Chair Suzanne Seaberg said.   

The award recipients were recognized today at the general session of the VSBA Annual Convention held in Williamsburg, Virginia. This is the fifth-year awards were presented.

“It is an honor to recognize school divisions that are excelling in risk management and are emphasizing safety, injury prevention and an overall management of risk,” said Dr. Lee Brannon, Director of Schools of VAcorp, “Providing continued guidance for the implementation of best safety practices in Virginia schools is our goal.”

The following school divisions were recognized:

Property/Casualty

Student Population Less than 5,000:

  • Page County Public Schools
  • Sussex County Public Schools
  • Winchester City Public Schools

Student Population 5,000-10,000:

  • Manassas City Public Schools
  • Augusta County Public Schools

Student Population More than 10,000:

  • Fauquier County Public Schools

Worker's Compensation

Student Population Less than 5,000:

  • Richmond County Public Schools
  • Middlesex County Public Schools
  • Rappahannock County Public Schools

Student Population 5,000-10,000:

  • Louisa County Public Schools

Student Population More than 10,000:

  • Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools
