November 27, 2017 - The School Board of the City of Manassas announced today that it will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent by seeking public input on qualifications. The search follows the announcement of the retirement of current Superintendent, Catherine Magouyrk, effective June 30, 2018.
The School Board has created a survey related to superintendent criteria, which is available at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ManassasSearch
Hard copies of the survey will also be available at central office, each school office, and upon request.
In addition to the survey, the Board will hold a public hearing:
Date: January 9, 2018
Time: 7:00 p.m.
Location: City Hall (9027 Center Street, Manassas, VA)
“Hiring a new superintendent is the biggest task a school board will face and we want to make sure that the public has a voice in this process,” said School Board Chairman Tim Demeria, “We hope that parents, staff and residents will take time to fill out the survey or attend the scheduled public hearing.”
The School Board selected the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) to assist the board with the superintendent search. Click here to view the search timeline:
10/30/2017 - The School Board of the City of Manassas recently revised the 2017-2018 School Calendar to change June 12, 2018, from an instructional day to a teacher workday in response to a request from the Director of Elections/General Registrar for City of Manassas to use six out of nine schools for polling sites for the primary election on June 12, 2018. As you know MCPS uses Raptor to check visitors who enter our schools; however, on Election Day we do not have the authority to require a check in and it is not possible to lock down any sections of the building to protect students from strangers entering the buildings. As a result, the School Board voted to change June 12 to a teacher workday. READ MORE
