Continuation of Meal ServiceManassas City Public Schools is pleased to announce that meal distribution will continue Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day) and every Monday for the foreseeable future. Families may pick up meals at Osbourn High School and Round Elementary School on Memorial Day. Weems Elementary will reopen for distribution on June 1. Meals will continue to be served from 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM and are provided for all students 18 and under.

Suspension of Meal Service at Weems
May 17, 2020: It has come to our attention that a food services employee at Weems Elementary School was recently exposed to Covid-19. The employee has not shown symptoms of the virus at this time, however, as a precaution, the meal distribution service at Weems will be closed until June 1st. This will allow staff members to self-monitor per health department guidelines. The facility will undergo extensive cleaning in accordance with CDC guidelines before reopening.
Until distribution resumes at Weems, residents in need of meal service are encouraged to go to Osbourn High School (1977 Eagle Way) or Round Elementary School (10100 Hastings Drive) on Mondays from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.

Dr. Newman's Update Regarding Closure for Remainder of Year

MCPS Family, As you are now aware, Governor Ralph Northam has announced that Virginia schools will be closed for the remainder of this school year due to the impact of the coronavirus. We know the tremendous challenge this causes for our families and the impact it may have on our students. As your superintendent, my heart goes out to our entire school community, however, I understand that state officials felt this is necessary to decrease the spread of the virus.
This announcement leads to a lot of questions, many of which we are not ready to answer at this time. Within 24 hours, the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) will be providing school divisions guidance on expectations for continued teaching and learning, graduation requirements for the class of 2020, and the issuing of standard and verified credits. Governor Closes Schools for the Remainder of the School Year

Governor Ralph Northam has announced that all Virginia K-12 schools are to remain closed for the rest of this school year. The state has indicated they will provide guidance regarding graduation, grades, and continuity of learning over the next 24 hours. MCPS To Provide Grab & Go Breakfast/Lunch During Closure – 3/15/20
Free "Grab and Go" breakfasts and lunches will be provided to all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability and there will be no discrimination during the meal service. Meals will be served beginning Wednesday, March 18th through April 3rd from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm at the following locations:
- Osbourn High School - 1977 Eagle Way, Manassas
- Round Elementary School - 10100 Hastings Drive, Manassas
- Weems Elementary School - 8750 Weems Road, Manassas
The distribution will be outside at each location and children must be present to receive the meals.

Superintendent's Letter Regarding Coronavirus

Important Health Information
Respiratory illness, in particular the Wuhan coronavirus (2019-nCoV) is a topic currently making news headlines. Manassas City Public Schools (MCPS) wants parents and staff to know that we are mindful of the reports. Please be assured that MCPS monitors reports of illnesses within our schools as a standard practice.
Change to 2019-2020 School Year Calendar
During its January 14 meeting, the School Board approved a revision to the 2019-2020 School Calendar. The revision moves the teacher workday from June 1 to April 13. This change will provide students with one additional day for Spring Break and revises the last day for teachers from June 1 to May 29.
Inclement Weather Procedures
The decision to close schools early, for an entire day or to delay school opening will be made as early as possible prior to scheduled starting times. Except in unusual circumstances demanding emergency measures, the decision will be made prior to 5:30 a.m. on the morning of a closing or delay in opening, so that the information can be broadcast on various communication outlets prior to 6 a.m.
