Mr. Dave Rupert

Mr. Rupert was named principal of Metz Middle School by the School Board of the City of Manassas, effective July 2, 2018. He will be entering his 17th year at Manassas City Public Schools for the 2019-20 school year. Most recently, Mr. Rupert served as principal at Weems Elementary School where he and his team have been recognized for five years of academic excellence! He also served as principal at Baldwin Elementary prior to his time at Weems. His teaching experience spans over six years and  includes reading, math, VA studies, and science. Mr. Rupert has also served in a leadership capacity as coach of the Metz golf team and boys basketball at Osbourn High School. Mr. Rupert believes Manassas City is a great place to learn. He is looking forward to all the great things he and his team will accomplish together at Metz Middle School, and is looking forward to seeing many of his former students at Metz!

Ms. Milhoan

Sarah Milhoan comes to us from Langston Hughes Middle School in Fairfax County Public Schools. Mrs. Milhoan served her previous school for two years as Equity Lead where she assembled and managed a team of staff members dedicated to exploring identity, diversity, equity and action to support the success of all students. She facilitated school-wide professional development centered around equity and cultural responsiveness and provided resources and mentoring to teachers and staff to develop a culturally responsive classroom. In addition, she brings with her experience in PBIS, restorative practices, student mentoring, and instructional coaching.

Mrs. Milhoan has seven years of classroom experience as a teacher and has spent this past year as a part-time Dean of Students focusing on attendance and after school programs. 

Mrs. Milhoan is committed and passionate about building relationships with students, staff and the community. She is an advocate for all students to ensure they receive a high quality and equitable education that meets their individual needs. 

Lastly, Mrs. Milhoan is a proud Manassas City resident and is looking forward to joining the Mustang Family.

Mrs. Zayatz

Mrs. Zayatz was named Assistant Principal of Metz Middle School in November of 2018, and began officially as a Metz Mustang in January 2019. She holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Old Dominion University, a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) from George Mason University, and a Master of Education (M.Ed) in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia (WAHOOWA!). Presently, Mrs. Zayatz is working towards her Doctorate degree (Ed.D) in Education Policy and Leadership at Virginia Tech.

Mrs. Zayatz began her public school teaching career in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Since then she has had the honor to serve in Prince William County Public Schools, International Schools overseas, the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDea) Schools, and in Stafford County Public Schools. She also served as an adjunct faculty member for both James Madison University and the University of Virginia working with preservice educators and educators pursuing their graduate degrees in education. Mrs. Zayatz is thrilled to now serve the Metz Middle School community, and is very proud to be a Mustang!

When not with her Metz family, Mrs. Zaytaz enjoys adventures and time at home with her husband and two children.

Ms. Thomas

Ms. Thomas joined Manassas City Public Schools in 2014 as Assistant Principal at Metz Middle School. Ms. Thomas has served as an educator in schools with diverse populations and student educational needs in Virginia, Washington, D.C and non-profit educational organizations. She has a strong background knowledge in special education laws, procedures, policies and best instructional and behavioral practices for all students. Additionally, Ms. Thomas speaks Spanish fluently. She has served in the capacity of general education classroom teacher, special education classroom teacher and resource/inclusion teacher, instructional coach, instructional leader and adjunct professor. Ms. Thomas earned a B.A. in Psychology from George Mason University, an M.ED in Special Education from Regent University, and a second M.Ed. in School Leadership and Supervision from George Mason University. Ms. Thomas is committed to ensuring that each student at Metz Middle School receives a high-quality education.
