Dr. Laura Goldzung is excited to join the Haydon Elementary team as Principal for SY23-24. She has been a public educator for 25 years. In 2012, Dr. Goldzung moved from the special education classroom into school administration and instructional leadership. She believes that strong foundational literacy and numeracy skills are critical to success through high school and beyond.  Central to her practice is a steadfast belief in interdisciplinary curriculum featuring inquiry-driven student learning and problem-solving. Dr. Goldzung led the implementation of Project Lead The Way (PLTW) -  Launch Curriculum for all students Kindergarten through 4^th grades at Baldwin Elementary School and was named the National PLTW Administrator of the Year in 2021-2022.  Dr. Goldzung was the Principal of Baldwin Elementary from 2016-2021 and, most recently, served as the MCPS Director of Instruction. When not at Haydon Elementary, she enjoys photography, gardening, and playing with her two dogs.

Mrs. Short grew up in Manassas, attended Round, Baldwin, Metz, and graduated from Osbourn High School. She has worked for MCPS since 2008. She started as an Instructional Assistant at Baldwin Elementary. Then she was an ESOL teacher at Baldwin and Metz Middle School. In 2021, she became the Assistant Principal at Round Elementary, and in July of 2023, she became the Assistant Principal at Haydon Elementary.

Mrs. Short is married with two sons. She enjoys playing the viola in the Manassas Symphony Orchestra, watching Penn State football, hiking, and traveling with her family.
