• College and Career Readiness 7 and 8 

    (meets every other day for 9 week)

    Students will become familiar with their individual abilities and interests as they relate to career choice and preparation. Students will become aware of specialized skills necessary to prepare for a lifetime of continuing education. Students will work on Naviance lessons and use this based platform to help raise student accountability and performance across a number of key indicators to leading in increased engagement, improvement in academic performance and overall workplace and college readiness.  Students will become familiar with the 16 career clusters and associated pathways. Students will choose and career cluster and pathway.  They shall become familiar with public and private colleges in Virginia.

     

    Digital Citizenship 7 and 8 

    (meets every other day for 9 week)

    This class will use the M.I.T. block coding language Scratch to learn the basic elements of computer coding. The following topics will be included: Input, output, looping, calculation, testing, and branching. The students will write several programs, including a program to draw their names, one to do an animation of Metz Middle School, another to animate their names, and finally one to write a animated story. No previous programming experience will be necessary.

     

    STEM 7 

    (meets every other day for 1 semester)

    In the STEM 7 class the teacher will facilitate learning activities that intentionally allow for students to analyze and integrate content from science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Students will answer complex questions, and develop solutions for challenging real world problems.  Teachers will also facilitate learning activities that allow students to refine critical thinking skills by applying scientific investigation and the engineering design process.  This class will emphasize on drawing and design, measurement skills and problem solving.  Students will work independently and in groups to design and construct a variety of projects and activities.

     

    STEM 8 

    In the STEM 8 class the teacher will facilitate learning activities that intentionally allow for students to analyze and integrate content from science, technology, engineering and mathematics.  Students will answer complex questions, and develop solutions for challenging real world problems.  Teachers will also facilitate learning activities that allow students to refine critical thinking skills by applying scientific investigation and the engineering design process. This class will emphasize on drawing and design, measurement skills and problem solving.  Students will be exposed to the proper use of woodworking tools/machines to construct a variety of projects and activities.
