Mrs. Kristen Whatley
My name is Kristen Whatley and I am the Speech and Language Pathologist at Round Elementary School. This year, I will also provide Speech Language Therapy services to students at Mayfield Intermediate School. I grew up in Walton, New York, which is a small town in the Catskill Mountains. My husband, Joel and I have two children, Daniel and Sarah. We also have goldendoodle named Savannah.
I earned my bachelor's degree in Speech Language Pathology and Audiology with a minor in Human Development from State University of New York (SUNY) College of Arts and Science at Geneseo in 1990. I then stayed at Geneseo and earned my master's degree in Speech Language Pathology in 1991. I have been nationally certified by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) with a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech Language Pathology (SLP) since 1992. I am also licensed by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology as a Speech Language Pathologist.
I worked as a Speech Language Pathologist in Rochester, New York, for four years before moving to Virginia. I began working at Round Elementary School in Manassas City Public Schools in August 1995. I have extensive experience working with students who receive speech and language therapy services to address their articulation, voice, fluency, receptive language, and/or expressive language skills. I also have a significant amount of experience working with students with Multiple Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, or Autism who require therapy services to address functional communication needs. In addition to working with the students on my caseload, I also provide consultative services for special education teachers and other Speech Language Pathologists throughout the school division to evaluate, develop, and implement Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems and devices for students.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns about your child's speech and language development.
