Ms. Katie Buffington
Hello Awesome Parents and Guardians of Baldwin Intermediate Art Students!
My name is Katie Buffington and I am thrilled to be at Baldwin Intermediate this year! I bring with me lots of teaching experience that spans across all grade levels and abilities from Kindergarten to Seniors in High School. This includes several years at Osbourn High School and Metz Middle School. I have three degrees including a Bachelor’s Degree of Fine Arts in Art Education from Michigan State University, a Master’s of Arts in Education specializing in Special Education from Michigan State University, and a Master’s of Curriculum and Instruction in ESOL from George Mason University. As you can see from my diverse teaching and education background, I believe that all students can learn and excel given the right support and scaffolding in the classroom, as well as at home.
We are doing amazing and wonderful things in the art room this year! I have stations set up around the room where students will have the ability to explore and use different mediums throughout the year. This is very different from a traditional art classroom where all students are working on the same project. In this room, no two projects are ever the same! How cool is that?!
In my class, I give students the opportunity to explore and create using as many different materials as possible! We will be creating using chalk pastel, oil pastel, graphite, tempera, ink, watercolor, ceramics, collage, acrylic and more! Students are in control of their learning and take pride in planning and creating their projects.
