I am lucky to be part of the visual arts team of teachers and thoroughly enjoy working with the students at Mayfield Intermediate School. My philosophy for teaching art is based on the core principles of teaching for artistic behavior (TAB). The art room is the child's studio and this learner-centered practice places the child at the center of the decision making process.

This is my 11th year teaching Art and 4th year at Mayfield. Prior to joining the Mayfield family I taught art to Pre-K through 7th grade students, in King and Queen County. I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Master of Art Education degree.

Exploring and creating art in a variety of media has always been part of my life. I relish the learning process including envisioning, planning, and constructing something new. I am especially fond of attending art fairs, shows, and museums. They provide inspiration as well as unique shopping oportunities. Painting was my first passion. Next, I dabbled in ceramics, until I discovered making jewelry with metal clay.

When I am not teaching or involved in art, I love spending time with family and friends. We enjoy kayaking, being outdoors, exercising, watching the birds, eating out and cooking healthy and unique foods from other cultures.
