Career & Technical Education (CTE)
MCPS Career & Technical Education encompasses a wide range of opportunities for students to explore and pursue their career objectives prior to graduating from high school. Our programs evolve each year in response to the changing workplace and workforce needs. It is our mission to provide all students with the skills necessary to compete in a global society and excel in the careers of tomorrow.
CTEprovides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. In total, about 12.5 million high school and college students are enrolled in CTE across the nation. CTE prepares these learners for the world of work by introducing them to workplace competencies and makes academic content accessible to students by providing it in a hands-on context. In fact, the high school graduation rate for CTE concentrators is about 90% – 15 percentage points higher than the national average.
Equal opportunities in career and technical education programs have been provided to persons without discrimination on the basis of gender, race, color, national origin, religion, age, political affiliation, veteran status, or persons with disabilities. (Assurance Statement 18), (8VAC 20-120-100)
