As students progress through the school years, they become active and involved listeners and develop a full command of the English language, evidenced by their use of standard English and their rich speaking and writing vocabularies."

On January 26, 2017, the Board of Education approved the 2017 English Standards of Learning. The Virginia Department of Education was authorized to proceed with the revision process of the English Curriculum Framework. For more information, see Superintendent's Memo 020-17.

English Standards of Learning (SOL) Curriculum Framework Revision – Individuals who wish to serve on a committee to revise the English Standards of Learning Curriculum Framework must submit an application through the web-based process, Instruction Committee Application Processing System (ICAPS). The application will require a professional reference and division approval. Completed applications are due to the VDOE through ICAPS by March 10, 2017
