The EWC is not your average classroom. It’s a welcoming community and a comforting space. Mrs. Callihan has made her room complete with colorful canvas’, round tables to encourage group work, and Spotify music lightly playing in the background. Don't stress about needed knowledge to help tutees. You have been chosen because of your personality, creativity, and work ethic. Being a tutor really requires you to simply be a guide and an outside source to help students develop their writing style and learn the writing process. During the first few weeks, a curriculum will be taught to ease your unsteady nerves and you will learn how to handle each type of writing and every type of tutee that comes into the Writing Center. Also, during Eagle Block, your time is spent tutoring, however, most classes will be free periods for you to catch up on things that you would've done during Eagle Block. You are not required to tutor 24/7, you can take a break from tutoring to makeup a quiz or go to a club meeting. The gratification that often comes from tutoring is by no means the only benefit. Discussion and collaboration is extremely beneficial to any type of writer. Being a tutor extends to being involved in Writing Conferences, Promo Week, and after school events such as Cookies and Composition. Becoming a part of the tutor family is also enjoyable and welcoming.
