• Welcome to the clinic at Jennie Dean!  I am here to work closely with all students, their families, and school personnel to meet the physical, mental, emotional and social needs of each child.

    School health services throughout the City of Manassas provide the following care:

    • First Aid Treatment for illnesses and injuries
    • Observation of students for symptoms of communicable illnesses, infections, infestations, and disorders of the body/skin (such as strep throat, ring worm, and lice)
    • Administer medications as prescribed
    • Treatments and procedures as requested by the student's medical provider
    • Immunization reviews to be sure that all students are in compliance with Virginia State Laws
    • Vision and Hearing Screenings for grades K, 3 and for all newly enrolled students.  (Services available at any grade level at the request of the parent and/or teacher and during an evaluation)
    • Individual counseling and guidance for students with medical needs
    • Health education programs
    • Literature on various medical conditions

      When a student should be excluded from school:

    • When the student has a fever of 100 degrees F or greater
    • When the student is vomiting or has diarrhea
    • When the student has an undiagnosed and/or suspected contagious illness or rash
    • When the student has flu-like symptoms (with or without a fever)--headache, fatigue, cough, aches, weakness, sore throat
    • When the student has eyes that are crusty in the morning, draining itchy and/or sore
    • Students MUST be fever free for 24 hours without being given medication (ibuprofen or Tylenol) before returning to school.

     What Parents Can Do To Help Their Children Maintain Optimal Health and Academic Success:

    • Make sure your child eats a good breakfast
    • Communicate with me about any health issues
    • Complete the Emergency Contact Card each year
    • Keep ill children at home.
    • Notify school when phone numbers change so we can locate you in an emergency
