Mrs. Arnaz Dotivala
Welcome to the Cosmetology Page. A little bit about me. I started working in the cosmetology field at the age of nine years. I started performing Electrolysis on clients at the age of 13 years. By the age of 21 years, I started my own salon business. After getting married, I came to the United States and acquired my cosmetology and cosmetology instructor licenses. While in New Jersey, I became the Styles Director for New Jersey's National Cosmetology Association, President of three NJ countys' cosmetology association, and a National Delegate for National Cosmetology Association. I was honored the National Hair Americas Award in 2004 and the Lifetime Designee Award by National Cosmetology Association in 2011. I was also honored as the 'Teacher of the year' in 2010-2011. My family moved to Virginia in 2011. I started teaching at Osbourn in 2013. I am the Virginia Lead Teacher for Human Services (Cosemtology, Barbering, Nail Technology, and Esthetics), appointed by Virginia Department of Education. I was recently awarded the 2018 Virginia Trade and Industrial Teacher of the Year. I am also the Chair for the Human Services Cluster of competitions for VA SkillsUSA which includes five competitions (Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technology, Esthetics, and Fantasy Mannequin). I am the advisor for the National Technical Honor Society at Osbourn High School.
Education- I have a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Masters of Arts in Education with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently pursuing my Administrative Certificate from James Madison University.
A little bit about my personal life- I was born and raised in India, I have been married for 23 years, I have a son who is a Chemical Engineer and works in Seattle and a daughter who is in her 2nd year of college. I have a dog named 'Biscuit' who was adopted from a shelter. I love to work, cook, read, and vacation with my family.
In the Osbourn Cosmetology program, students learn about hair, nails, skin, and professionalism. The cosmetology program allows the students to experience a salon like setting and provides an opportunity to acquire a skill and prepare for the state license. Students participate in a salon clinic, field trips, competitions, community events, etc. during the two year period. The program divides its time between theory and practical work. The cosmetology students are prepped for the State Licensing Exam and the Professional Work Place in the two year program. The program has maintained a 100% passing at the State Licensing Exam with high employment opportunities.
My motto is "Be your best!"
