Mrs. Arnaz Dotivala
Hello, thank you for your interest in the cosmetology career. I have worked as a cosmetologist for 39 years out of which, as a public school teacher for 16 years. I was born and raised in India. I started working in the cosmetology field at the age of nine years and started performing Electrolysis on clients at the age of 13 years. By the age of 21 years, I owned and operated my very own salon. After getting married, I came to the United States and acquired my cosmetology and cosmetology instructor licenses. While in New Jersey, I became the Styles Director for New Jersey's National Cosmetology Association, President of three NJ countys' cosmetology association, and a National Delegate for National Cosmetology Association. I was honored the National Hair Americas Award in 2004 and the Lifetime Designee Award by National Cosmetology Association in 2011. I was also honored as the 'Teacher of the year' in 2010-2011.
My family moved to Virginia in 2011. I started teaching at Osbourn in 2013. I am currently Virginia's Lead Teacher for Human Services (Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technology, and Esthetics), appointed by Virginia Department of Education. I was recently awarded the '2018 Virginia Trade and Industrial Teacher of the Year' award. I am also the Chair for the Human Services Cluster of competitions for VA SkillsUSA which includes five competitions (Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technology, Esthetics, and Fantasy Mannequin). I have participated in the curriculum writing for the Cosmetology, Barbering, Nail Technology, Beauty Salon Assistant, and the Workplace Readiness curriculums and assessments. I am the current Incoming President Elect for Virginia Association for Trade and Industrial Educators.
At Osbourn High School, I am the sponsor for the National Technical Honor Society. Our cosmetology program has won 4 state championships, many medals, and recently placed 3rd in the Nation. We have maintained 100% passing at the state licensing exam each year.
Education- I have a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Masters of Arts in Education with a Specialization in Curriculum and Instruction. I am currently pursuing my Administrative Certificate from James Madison University.
I have been married for 24 years and have a son and a daughter. Our dog 'Biscuit' is a rescue. I love to work, cook, read, and vacation with my family.
I love teaching and watching my students grow. I love to hear about their success stories and also just stay in touch with them as they go through their life. I have found the cosmetology field to be extremely fulfilling. It has allowed me to grow as a person and develop strengths and leadership skills. Nothing is impossible, when life is tackled with passion and enthusiasm. "Be Your Best!"
