Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Karen Krotzer
My name is Karen Krotzer and I teach ESOL with the kindergarten team at George Carr Round Elementary School. I earned my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from California University of PA in 1984, and my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on Multilingual/Multicultural Education from George Mason University in 2013. I began teaching in MCPS as a full-time kindergarten teacher during the 1993-94 school year. I have taught as a classroom teacher in kindergarten for a combined 11 years, and in first grade for 10 years. In the 2014-15 school year, I joined the ESOL team working with the kindergarten teachers and instuctional assistants. During the 2016-17 school year, I was fortunate enough to be able to work with the first grade team allowing me the opportunity to "move up" with former kindergarten students from the previous school year as well as getting to personally know our newer transfer students from other buildings in the school division through the redistricting of the elementary schools. Once again this year I am back in kindergarten. I have a variety of experiences working with young children as far back as high school and in private daycare prior to my tenure here in MCPS. During my years at Round, I have been a member of several curriculum and report card planning committees. I have been serving as a member of the MCPS ESOL Advisory Committee for several years, and I am currently co-leading our P.E.P (Parents as Educational Partners) program along with Mrs. Tracy Hammond. I also lead the ESOL team at Round by coordinating important administrative duties for our building. I am looking forward to a wonderful and successful school year with the staff and students at G. C. Round Elementary.
