What is the PTSA?

The PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) is a private, non-profit organization of parents, teachers, students, and community members who strive to better the lives of our students at OHS.  We are part of an association that is organized at the local, state, and national levels.  It is the largest and oldest child advocacy organization in the country.  We are concerned with the safety, health, welfare, and education of all of our students.

Please let us know if you are interested in being a part of our committees for the 2021-22 school year.  Email us at OHS_PTSA@yahoo.com or call Deb Shelton 703-217-6053.

*After Prom:  Two years ago, the PTSA absorbed the After-Prom Committee.  We need a dedicated group of people who will work to plan and fundraise so that our students can have the best After Prom experience ever!

    * Fundraising/Donations Committee:  In order to continue our work, we need to raise some money.  Help us do that with your ideas and organizational skills.

*Reflections Committee:  Reflections is the annual National PTA art competition (visual arts, choreography, film, literature, photography, and music composition).

*Saturday Learning Seminar Committee:  Support OHS’s weekend learning opportunities.

*Scholarship Committee:  The PTSA awards two student scholarships each year.  Help us make the current process more efficient, advertise to students and teachers, and find judges to evaluate the applications.  You do not need to attend regular PTSA meetings.  The Committee will run from January through May.

*School Board Representative:  Keep the PTSA informed of what is happening with the School Board.  Provide a report for our monthly meetings.

*School Spirit/Pride Events Coordinator:  Help set up fundraising events at restaurants (ie Foster’s Grill) and activity places (Harris Pavilion ice skating).  You do not need to attend PTSA meetings or the actual events.

*Social Media Coordinator:  Help us keep everyone informed of what is happening by posting on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

*Student Representatives:  Help the PTSA be a better organization.  Represent student ideas and needs to the organization.

*Teacher Appreciation Committee:  Help us thank our teachers and all of the OHS staff for everything they do for our students.  The main responsibility is Teacher Appreciation Week in May and the Welcome Back Breakfast in August.

*Teacher/Staff Representative:  Help the PTSA be a better organization.  Represent teacher/staff ideas and needs to the organization.  Act as a liaison.
