Amanda Jones

Hi! I teach the third- and fourth-grade gifted and talented pullout classes for all five MCPS elementary schools. Identified GT students visit the GT Resource Center at Haydon from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. one day each week.

I have a B.A. in Mathematics and French from Johns Hopkins University, an M.S. in Education from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York, an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Maryland, and an MSc in Software Engineering from City, University of London. I am currently working on my GT Endorsement at the University of Virginia.

I started teaching at MCPS in 2019, after four years as a volunteer at Haydon. I started my teaching career over 20 years ago in New York City, where I taught math and social studies to grades 6-8. After that I held a lot of different jobs, including newspaper reporter, web developer, and (most exciting) support staff to the legal team in a big international court case - a job that took me to Africa and Europe many times for many years.

I love to share my wide-ranging interests with my students. My goal is to challenge their minds and expand their skills, especially in the areas of research, writing, critical thinking, and technology.

I have been a happy Manassas City resident since 2011, and I’m a proud mom of two MCPS students.
