Ms. Katie Buffington
Ms. Buffington brings with her lots of teaching experience that spans across all grade levels and abilities - from kindergarten to seniors in high school. This includes several years at Osbourn High School and Metz Middle School. She has three degrees, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Education from Michigan State University, a Master of Arts in Education specializing in Special Education from Michigan State University, and a Master of Curriculum and Instruction in ESOL from George Mason University. As you can see from her diverse teaching and educational background, she believes that all students can learn and excel given the right support and scaffolding in the classroom, as well as at home.
Ms. Buffington gives students the opportunity to explore and create using as many different materials as possible. Students will be creating using chalk pastel, oil pastel, graphite, tempera, ink, watercolor, ceramics, collage and more! In the art room, students are in control of their learning and take pride in planning and creating their projects.
In her free time, Ms. Buffington enjoys creating her own art, running ultra marathons, orienteering and adventure racing. She is always training for an upcoming race. Her favorite quote is the golden rule, "Do unto others as you would have others do unto you."
