How to Apply for Pre-K or VPI

  • 1. Parents need to contact their neighborhood school

    2. Families are accepted according to enrollment criteria to ensure that children with the highest need receive priority. Enrollment criteria are based on multiple factors and are set by federal and state guidelines. Though families may qualify, spaces are limited and selection is based on need, not “first come, first serve”. The application process begins December 1st for the upcoming school year. However it is important for all families to apply as soon as possible.

    3. Families accepted into the program will receive notification of their registration date. 

    Required information for your registration appointment:

    1. Income Verification:  TANF/SSI payment information, W-2 forms or three most recent pay stubs which indicate gross year-to-date earnings. Last year’s tax return (1040). An official letter from your employer stating your monthly earnings, and/or Documentation of child support or spousal support. 

    2. Proof of ResidencyLease, rent agreement, mortgage statement and two other forms of ID which provide proof of address (utility bill, car registration, bank statement, etc.)

    Please also bring to your registration appointment: 

    • Child’s birth certificate

    • Parent/Guardian picture identification 

    • Medical insurance card for your child (Medicaid, FAMIS, Private)

    • Current Immunization record

    • Physical 

    • Custody papers/court papers regarding your child (if this applies to your child)

    • SNAP information if your family receives benefits
